What is BMP?
BMP is an old, uncompressed Windows bitmap format. BMP files are very large because every pixel is stored as-is, so they are rarely used on the web or shared by email.
What is JPG?
JPG (or JPEG) is the most widely supported image format in the world. It uses lossy compression to keep photos small, works in every browser, app, printer and operating system, but does not support transparency.

Frequently asked questions
Will I lose quality converting BMP to JPG?
JPG uses lossy compression, but at the default quality of 85 the difference is practically invisible. Move the quality slider up to 95–100 for maximum quality, or down to 60–75 for smaller files.
Are my images uploaded to a server?
No. All conversion happens inside your browser on your own device. Your photos are never uploaded, stored or seen by anyone, which also makes conversion faster and lets it work on any connection.
Is it really free? Are there limits?
Yes, it is completely free with no sign-up and no watermark. Because nothing is uploaded, there are no file size or file count limits. Very large batches are only limited by your device's memory.
Can I convert many images at once?
Yes. Select or drop as many images as you like. They are converted in parallel, and you can download them one by one or all together as a ZIP file.
Is the photo metadata (EXIF) kept?
No. Converted images do not contain the original metadata such as GPS location, camera model or date. This protects your privacy when sharing photos. The orientation is applied, so photos stay the right way up.
